Showcasing respectful practices with a nature of patience; allowing for time and space, unhurried development, and ensuring we promote natural movement. Our kaiako treat our youngest as competent people, allowing them to give everything a go themselves by stepping back - fostering independence and capability. We engage with our tamariki with the same respect we as adults prefer and use gentle tone of voice showing manaakitanga.

As an eco-friendly and sustainable childcare centre we are proud to use cloth nappies for our littlest learners. By using cloth nappies we are reducing our landfill consumption of at least 140 disposable nappies per day.
Did You Know?
That one disposable nappy can take up to 500 years to decompose!
Our Kauri Forest is spread over two natural lit rooms and has big sliding doors to a large, natural space that includes beautiful Kōwhai and fruit trees, and vegetable gardens. We provide indoor and outdoor flow throughout the day where our toddlers can run, climb and explore through all types of weather conditions ensuring appropriate clothing is worn.
Our kaiako create an environment that allows our tamariki to lead their own learning through play, at a pace that suits each individual need, allowing for physical, mental, social, and emotional development. We pride ourselves on upholding our commitment to the bi-cultural curriculum of Te Whariki, whilst also nurturing the multi-cultural needs of our wider community, creating competent and confident learners in mind, body and spirit.
Within Rātā Grove, tamariki are treated to a home away from home with an environment that supports a sense of belonging.
We provide meaningful rituals to allow our tamariki a moment to connect to their kaiako, e hoa and Papatūānuku.
Tamariki are encouraged to follow the Rātā Grove way - developing social and emotional competence where we foster respectful interactions and promote positive social skills. We have a Kaitiaki O Te Wiki, who role models the guardianship of our room.
We have worked closely with schools to create a Ready For School program, with school readiness skills such as writing and basic mathematics. We have enriching experiences that support our tamariki to develop dispositions that last a lifetime.
